The essential travel insurance policy for travelling in a pandemic.

Updated: Apr 11, 2021

One word which we can certainly use to describe #2020 and #2021 is #unpredictable.

Which is why if you can travel during this pandemic, it's #essential to have a travel insurance policy which will cover you for the following,

  1. #COVID-19 medical cover

  2. For travelling against government advice

Last year my friend and I faced so many hurdles with our holiday to #Malta.

It’s the first time in our lives where we had a #holiday booked but, due to obstacles outside of our control, we didn’t know until a few days before that we were actually going to be able to travel.😱

We encountered not only a change of departure/arrival #airport, but an additional change of dates, which in turn led to changes to our #accommodation plans, not once, but twice!

Then just as we thought we had everything finalised the #UK government closed the #travel corridor between the UK and Malta 😩 which in layman's terms meant,

  1. Only essential travel to the #islands was allowed, which didn’t include #holiday #travel

  2. We had to #quarantine for 14 days on our return to the UK.

When the announcement was made, tour operators immediately cancelled all those travellers who were booked on package holidays. 😪

We were lucky as we had booked our #trip #dynamically as we always do, therefore our bookings were still intact. (Dynamically means not booking a package holiday but rather flights and accommodation booked independent to each other.)

Julie and I have worked in the travel industry for decades and as we listened to the news briefing, we were totally distraught 😢

The #quarantine was not an issue for us, we could work with that, but the essential travel only part we felt was going to be insurmountable.

Why?

Well we wouldn’t be able to obtain travel #insurance for our trip, as we were now classed as "travelling against government advice"

Or could we................

#Determined though and undeterred, I set about conducting in-depth #research.

Could there actually be a travel insurance company out there who would cover us both for #COVID-19 medical cover and for travelling against government advice??

If there was, our trip could still be #saved.

With a #serendipitous fanfare of trumpets 🎺 enter Battleface!

As soon as I found the Battleface site, I felt safe in the knowledge we’d found the cover we needed and ecstatically called Julie to tell her the #amazing #news.

We were both #incredulous that this type of cover existed and had to check and double check that what we were reading was correct!

Low and behold it truly was. 😀

We were also equally incredulous with the price of the policy 😀

To obtain such a #specialised cover, we were expecting it to come at an elevated price, but boy were we proved happily wrong!

The Battleface cover was just £5 more expensive than my pre #COVID-19 regular providers cover! 🎉

It also even offered me the same option of my beloved safety net of a zero excess (optional) 🙌🙌

Joy of absolute joys, Malta here we come! 🎉 🥂 🎉

Don’t you agree that the company name entirely lends itself to the product it offers? Battleface, the name alone profoundly fills me with confidence.

Here are the #highlights of their cover!

  • Battleface provides lean, flexible travel insurance and services that suit the needs of today’s travelers going to unconventional or challenging places. This includes destinations under government “Do Not Travel” or “Essential Only” advisories.

  • Covid-19 medical expenses are covered if you are age 59 or under. (Regular medical expenses are covered up to the age of 79) This benefit does not include cover in relation to COVID-19 expenses for trip cancellations, curtailment of a holiday or lockdowns.

  • Customizable benefits include baggage cover, cancellation, business cover, medical treatment and evacuation and repatriation of mortal remains.

  • Every product includes 24/7 Emergency Travel, Crisis Response and Medical and Assistance services.

  • As plans can change quickly, you can buy battleface policies whilst already travelling 🤩

battleface products are provided by Tangiers Insurance Services Limited, a UK insurance intermediary authorised and regulated by the FCA and Tangiers Insurance Services LLC, a US licensed insurance producer. The details provided on this webpage are for information only. Always read the description of cover contained within your policy to ensure it is suitable for your needs.

Their website is super easy to #navigate, and their customer service is simply #wonderful, a UK head office with calls answered quickly, and above all really lovely, #friendly, and uber #knowledgeable staff. 👏 👏

In the new norm, Battleface are now our go to travel insurance company for any trip we will be taking, be that to #Malta or beyond. I feel so confident in them that I've actually partnered with them too.

In such a #tumultuous year which has seen the #global travel industry tested to its limits, I was #ecstatic to hear the #joyous news that earlier this month Battleface won the International Travel & Health Insurer of the Year Award at the 2020 #ITIJAwards. (International Travel and Health Insurance Journal)

An extremely well deserved accolade.

They also hold an #excellant 5* Trustpilot score 👏

I urge you to #explore their offering!

Neither of us had any pre existing but if we had we would have the back up of our EHIC cards until the end of the year. 🙂

Found Battleface before I travelled in Sept. Never had a mishap in 40 yrs of int'l travel, but didn't want to go unprotected. Only thing they don't cover is existing medical conditions.
