Maltese vintage buses are a cherished part of Malta's soul, brimming with history and personality. When on holiday in Malta I'd highly recommend that you experience a little touch of yesteryear by taking a trip onboard one!
These iconic, retro vehicles are a kaleidoscope of colour and ooze personality, boasting bold, hand-painted designs that reflect Malta's rich culture and history. With their rounded edges, gleaming chrome details, and unmistakable character, these buses are more than just a mode of transport—they're a symbol of nostalgia and a celebration of true craftsmanship.
These buses will always hold a very dear place in my heart, as a little girl they were a true adventure and offered so much more than a journey from A-B. Each bus has it's own personality - vibrant in its individuality with each driver lovingly decorating their bus with personal touches like religious symbols, colourful designs, and heartfelt names inspired by saints or local stories. A symbol of Malta's charm, and adored by visitors far and wide.
Although they retired in 2011 to make way for todays modern fleet, thankfully their legacy lives on.
Today, these beloved buses are lovingly preserved and continue to tell the story of Malta's past. They evoke warm memories of simpler times and remain a beacon of the island's resourcefulness and spirit, delighting those lucky enough to step onboard.
